When the installation is completed, a desktop icon for Nspector will be created. During the installation of the handheld program files, a screen will appear where you will need to select the operating system on your PDA. Make a selection and follow the on screen instructions.

Note: If this is a trial version, you can only generate 10 reports. Every time you generate a report including Job # 99, it counts as a report generated.

Starting Nspector for the first time

Click the Nspector icon on the desktop. Enter your company information. This information can be entered by selecting ‘Edit’ at the main menu before opening a job. When you are finished, click OK. Click on 'Reports' at the main menu then “Report Options’. At the ‘Summary’ tab, select the ratings you want to appear in the summary report. Also select locations and/or complete condition text to be included in summary report. The ‘Misc Options’ tab contains options for cover page and wood boring insect form selections. (Note: You can choose between Nspector wood destroying form and the NMPA-33 form however, this form would require an electronic code for a yearly fee of $100.00 and a one time fee of $100.00 to Home Inspections, Inc. to use this form with Nspector) Before using the PDA, you must transfer Job # 99 to the handheld. Click on 'Jobs' and select 'Open Job', select Job # 99, then at the main menu select ‘HPC’ and click ‘Prepare Job’. After the successful transfer of job # 99, you may then start a new job and transfer it to the handheld. You can only have one job open at a time. To close a job, select 'Close Job' from the 'Jobs' menu. When you have completed job data input, go to 'Reports' on the main menu, and generate the report. If you encounter difficulty in any phase of the program, select ‘Help’ at the main menu.

Note: The handheld device must be on and synchronized to the PC with no job opened on the PC when retrieving job(s) from the handheld device. Never use the x in the upper right corner of the PDA to close the program, select ‘Menu’, and then click ‘Quit’.

Note: When opening Nspector on the PDA for the first time you get a message, (There is no application associated with “Nspector”. Run the application first, then open this file from within the application), do the following. Synchronize PDA to PC click ‘Tools’ at top of ActiveSync menu, ‘Options’, check the ‘Files’ box if not already checked, then ‘OK’. The folder ‘Pocket_PC My Documents’ will be created in ‘My Documents’ on your PC if the default PDA name is ‘Pocket_PC’. Go to www.homenspector.com, select Support then VB Runtime. The file will download into ‘PocketPC My Documents’. Next on your PDA, click ‘Start’, ‘Programs’, ‘File Explorer’ then ‘My Documents’. Click the ‘msvbppc.arm’ file, Nspector should open after file download. If your PDA name is not ‘Pocket _PC’ you will need to copy the ‘msvbppc.arm’ file from ‘PocketPC My Documents‘ created in ‘My Documents’ on your PC and paste it in your renamed PDA file, e.g. (PocketPC 2), the name of your PDA.
