AACPS Teachers Honored by Maryland Art Education Association

The Maryland Art Education Association (MAEA) conference will be held at the Fine Arts Building, Towson University, on Friday, October 19, 2007. At the conference, Maryland arts supervisors are provided an opportunity to recognize art teachers from their school system for excellence in their school art programs and dedication to raising student achievement in the visual arts. Congratulations to the following teachers from AACPS who have been selected to receive an award from the Maryland Art Education Associationas one of Anne Arundel County Public Schools OutstandingArtEducators for 2007:

      Jennifer Petrin, Old Mill HS and Kyra Seely, Glen Burnie HS: Teaching Strategies for Active Engagement in the AP Art History Course Katherine Sowinski, Riviera Beach ES: Playgrounds, Museums, and Houses: Sculpture on a Budget Suzanne Owens, Coordinator of Art, Denise Levitine, Art Resource Teacher, and Melissa Mathews, Eastport ES and Art Resource: Sailing Into The Arts and Beyond:Large Scale Student Art Programs with High Impact Randall Mars, Waugh Chapel ES: Portrait and Still Life: Creating Art To Inform

      Also, the Maryland Art Education Association is sponsoring the 2007 Annual Showcase of Outstanding Maryland Student Artwork. This display of visual art will be exhibited during the Maryland Art Education Conference at the Towson University Center for the Arts. A recognition ceremony honoring the student artists will be held Friday, October 19, 2007, at 5:30 pm.

      The following students from Anne Arundel County are exhibiting work: Olivia Snow, Severna Park MS; Katherine Dombrausky, Chesapeake HS; Danielle Jacklin, Arundel HS; Sarah Jockel, South River HS; Margo Williams, Jon Schubbe, and Katie Flaskerud, Severna Park HS; Amy Musgrove, Southern HS; Katrina Parker, Broadneck HS; Arti Inamdar and Michelle Martir, Old Mill HS; and Sara DiDonato, High Point ES.
